With the end of the season fast approaching and Newcastle United languishing in the mid-table of the Premier League, Anthony Gordon’s Newcastle future is once again up in the air this summer. In years previous, the Scouser has been linked to a host of top-tier clubs, with German champions Bayern Munich the most recent of which to be touted with his signature.
The versatile winger has had a mixed season on Tyneside this campaign, yet he retains strong numbers with 23 goal contributions in 51 games for club and country this season, 40 of which he started in. Part of his attacking prowess has seen him play all across Eddie Howe’s front three, more recently being deployed down the middle with club-record signing Nick Woltemade being utilised deeper in midfield.
If this summer is the window Gordon decides to depart, which seems likely according to the Telegraph after they reported he was unhappy at the club, then it begs the question- which side after his services suits him most?
Bayern Munich

After dipping into the Premier League winger market in recent seasons, with the likes of Michael Olise and Luis Diaz, Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich are the latest European giant reported to be fans of Newcastle’s number 10. The 25-year-old’s versatility to play on either wing or down the middle makes him a prime target for the Bavarians, with no clear deputy for Harry Kane next season, with Nicolas Jackson set to return to Chelsea after not reaching the appearance clause to trigger Bayern’s £56 million obligation to buy.
Kompany has Bayern playing rapid attacking football with lots of energy on his wings, something Serge Gnabry is still able to provide at the age of 30. With the former Arsenal winger soon to turn 31 though, Die Roten are understandably looking to replenish their wide options, especially after the departure of Leroy Sane last season.
Energy and pace is the heart of Gordon’s game, finishing 5th last season for most sprints according to Opta, and finishing top for most sprints in the season, averaging 29 sprints per 90 minutes. A characteristic the Belgian would love in his side.
Liverpool

In dipping into the aforementioned Premier League winger market, Liverpool lost Columbian winger Luis Diaz to the Bundesliga, bringing an end to a three-and-a-half-year chapter at Anfield to an end. In an attempt not to block Rio Ngumoha’s pathway, the Reds opted not to replace the winger, a decision that has come back to bite them this season. The 17-year-old has played just 813 minutes so far this season despite the promise he’s showed this season as early as August, where he scored on his Premier League debut against Newcastle.
This isn’t the first time the Reds have showed interest in the winger, having been consistently been linked with him since his early days on the Toon. His energy and end product would certainly be helpful on the Red side of Merseyside, with Cody Gakpo suffering from a deep downturn in form this season. The Dutchman, backed consistently by his compatriot gaffer Arne Slot, has been predictable and lazy at times this season, with 15 goal contributions this season at Anfield.
Newcastle will be familiar with the current Premier League champions coming for their stars after last summer’s Alexander Isak saga- and with the former Everton star refusing to discredit his first club’s biggest rivals, it isn’t hard to imagine the Kirkdale lad saying no to his reported boyhood club should they come knocking.
Given the uncertainty around Arne Slot’s future at Anfield though, it may not be the wisest move for Gordon, as the popular replacement of Xabi Alonso may not see him deployed in his preferred winger role.
Arsenal

Arsenal have remained top of the league for most of this season, relying on their doggedness and world-class defence to get them through games, despite below-par offensive performances. This leaves a disappointing feeling to Arsenal’s heavy summer 2025 spending, where they spent over £180 million on offensive reinforcements in Viktor Gyökeres, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke.
After losing to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup Final and being knocked out the FA Cup to Southampton, just two trophies remain for the Gunners this season, neither of which they ae favourites to win (despite their six-point lead). Part of this stems from their poor attacking prowess in open play, especially on the left-hand side with a lacklustre Gabriel Martinelli and an aging Leandro Trossard.
Gordon would add pace and directness to Arsenal’s attack, something Bukayo Saka adds on his best form (which he hasn’t enjoyed this season) and Noni Madueke. Joining Arsenal also guarantees a side always in the title picture, as well as being able to compete across all competitions, namely the Champions League.
Arsenal should have the money to splash this summer, especially if they cash in on one of the aforementioned wingers, with Trossard especially being linked to a range of sides in the Premier League, Serie A and the Turkish Super League.
Where’s best for Gordon?

Liverpool will certainly need a winger or two this summer, but as a right-footed player best used off the left, and the Reds in dire need of a Mo Salah replacement, perhaps a move back to Merseyside isn’t the wisest for Gordon, despite what his heart may tell him.
Meanwhile, Arsenal may well end the season trophyless, which will likely lead to a toxic situation at the club, with fan frustration likely to grow against Mikel Arteta if they finished second for the fourth season in a row. The profile Gordon offers as well as his Premier League proven status could make him a primary target for Andrea Berta however.
Ultimately, the best side of these three is undeniably Bayern. They’ve shown not only can top-class Premier League players like Harry Kane and Luis Diaz can flourish in recent years, but young attackers can thrive under Kompany there too, like Michael Olise. By the time the window rolls around, it may be the case Bayern are not only champions of Germany for the 28th time, but also champions of Europe for the seventh time also. For the best side and the trophies that will rack up over his career, Bayern Munich seems the best fit for Gordon this summer.
